A bicyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision Wednesday night on College Avenue has been identified as Elizabeth Garcia, 26.
The Santa Rosa resident was on life support at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on Thursday with massive head injuries, Santa Rosa police said.
Sgt. Doug Schlief said her family was en route to the hospital.
Police said Garcia was riding a BMX-style bike north on Mendocino Avenue at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday when she crossed College Avenue against a red light and was struck in the dark by a westbound car.
She was not wearing a helmet and did not have a light on her bike that might have improved her visibility, police said.
?The car that was westbound (at) the last minute saw her, and it does not appear that speed was a factor,? Schlief said.
It also appears Garcia had been drinking, although how much is unknown, Schlief said.
?I guess it?s fair to say that alcohol may have been a factor,? he said.
The driver of the Honda Accord, Alexander Kaplan, 24, of Rohnert Park, apparently had a green light as he proceeded through the intersection, police said.
