Woman struck by pickup, injured in Petaluma

Police are attempting to determine whether the pedestrian or the driver had the green light in the Wednesday incident.|

A 31-year-old Petaluma woman walking near the Petaluma police station early Wednesday was struck by a vehicle and suffered possibly serious injuries, according to Petaluma police who are seeking witnesses.

She was crossing Petaluma Boulevard North at Sycamore Lane just before 6:30 a.m. when she was hit by a pickup truck.

The woman suffered head injuries and possible internal injuries and was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

She’d been walking west to east across the boulevard and was about 12 feet into the roadway, according to police.

The driver of the pickup, a 1995 Nissan Frontier, was a 19-year-old Santa Rosa man. He’d been heading south on Petaluma Boulevard North approaching the intersection and told officers that just before the collision, he’d seen something in the roadway and hit his brakes. The driver stopped and was cooperating with police, officials said.

The driver also told officers a semi-truck pulling a trailer was in the left lane next to him just before the crash.

It didn’t appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor, officials said.

Officers want to know who had the green light. Witnesses or anyone with information was asked to contact Officer Matt Frick at 707-778-4372.
