YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK - The National Park Service is offering a $1,000 reward for any information regarding the theft of the iconic Ahwahnee Hotel sign that was in Yosemite National Park.

KNTV reports (http://bit.ly/20aEKoW ) Thursday that park service spokesman Scott Gediman says the sign was reported stolen in February. The theft came shortly before the name of the hotel was changed to the Majestic Yosemite Hotel.

But Gediman called the timing of the theft likely a coincidence, the station reports.

The hotel was renamed after a year-long naming rights and trademark battle.

The sign was made in 1930.

Anyone caught with the historic sign could be charged with up to two felonies, including malicious mischief and/or theft of government property.

There are six possible misdemeanors that the thief could face.
