Petaluma man arrested on 3rd DUI charge in 6 years

A Petaluma man was arrested for DUI Friday afternoon, his third time in six years, after witnesses reported seeing him spinning donuts on Petaluma Boulevard, police said.

Police said Derek Baskett, 24, was spotted driving recklessly on on the west side of Petaluma. One caller reported seeing the green 2005 Toyota Scion Baskett was driving spinning donuts.

Officers located Baskett's vehicle traveling west on Western Avenue and successfully stopped him. Police initiated a DUI investigation and found that Baskett had an alcohol content level of 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit.

Police arrested Baskett for DUI and later learned that he was on active DUI probation from two previous DUI convictions, February 2008 and November 2004.

Baskett's car was impounded for 15 days due to his DUI priors. He was taken to Sonoma County Jail and his bail was set at $15,000.
