it was so … he’s my life,

Charlie’s owner Robyn Vermilyea Tuesday morning was walking Charlie, who’d suffered nothing worse than some flesh wounds.

Vermilyea had called 911 because she’d remembered Rancho Adobe firefighters had sometime earlier helped a friend’s trapped horse. “I’m so grateful. I’m sure they’ve come across a hundred-times-worse than this.”

Charlie is a 14-year-old thoroughbred quarter horse cross she’d rescued about eight years ago.

The animal, who was trapped for about an hour, was sopping wet from the stress.

She said the scene initially presented a bit of puzzle as firefighters decided how best to do the job. They couldn’t pick it up like a cat, Vermilyea said.
