Body washes ashore on Mendocino Coast

Human remains that washed ashore at Jug Handle State Natural Reserve on the Mendocino coast may be those of a San Francisco physics professor who fell from the Mendocino Headlands last month, authorities said Friday.

A hiker found the remains on rocks at the water?s edge Thursday afternoon, about six miles north of the point where Maurizio Biasini fell into the water, the Mendocino County Sheriff?s Office said.

A scrap of clothing suggests the body may be that of Biasini, an Italian professor and San Francisco resident who was visiting the Mendocino Headlands on Nov. 29 when he fell from a cliff, authorities said.

Sheriff?s Lt. Rusty Noe said additional investigation is required to determine if the decomposed remains are Biasini?s.
