STOCKTON — Authorities say a loose dog attacked a man, who later died at a hospital of bite wounds.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office says deputies called to a pit bull attack in Stockton shot and killed the dog to stop his attack on 43-year-old Earl Stephens.

The Sacramento Bee reports the office says in a statement Stephens was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries Saturday.
