A confrontation between people in two cars on a west Santa Rosa street ended in gunfire early Monday, leaving one man wounded, Santa Rosa police said.

Callers alerted police about 1:45 a.m. to a shooting on West Ninth Street across from Lincoln Elementary School. Detectives suspect gang members were involved, Sgt. Tommy Isachsen said.

The 20-year-old victim was hit possibly two times, but didn’t appear to suffer serious injuries. It wasn’t initially clear if the victim was a gang member but the incident appeared to involve gang issues, at least on one side, Isachsen said.

Police asked anyone with information, including anonymous tips, to contact gang detectives at 707-543-3670. Information leading to an arrest and conviction can result in a reward of up to $2,500 from the Sonoma County Alliance, he said.
