Windsor K-9 deputy sniffs out more than 100 pounds of marijuana

A drug-sniffing police dog named Jags discovered more than 100 pounds of marijuana being transported Wednesday night by two New York men, who were then arrested on a possession drug charge with intent to sell, according to the Windsor Police Department.

Windsor deputies on a routine traffic stop noticed the smell of marijuana when they pulled over the driver of a rented Toyota Avalon around 9 p.m. Wednesday on southbound Highway 101 near the Hearn Avenue exit in Santa Rosa.

Steven Molinero, 27, and Almir Ramic, 29, both of Staten Island, New York, were arrested after Jags identified several shrink-wrapped bags covered with air freshener. The bags contained 108 pounds of marijuana.

The deputy pulled over the driver because he was driving unsafely close to the vehicle in front of him, said Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Spencer Crum.

The Sheriff’s Office has a contract with the city of Windsor and provides its law enforcement.

Molinero and Ramic were booked into Sonoma County Jail and later each were released after posting $30,000 in bail.
