Fire destroyed a motor home in rural Petaluma early Monday while the owner and his dog escaped unharmed, officials said.

The fire was reported about 9 a.m. at a property in the 4100 block of Bodega Avenue, said Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Kelly Bradley.

The motor home was ablaze when firefighters arrived and flames had spread to the grass, he said. The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes, protecting a nearby trailer and barn, Bradley said.

A 400-square-foot grassy area was scorched, he said.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
