Sonoma County got the most rain since April this weekend

Santa Rosa received more than an inch of rain over the 72-hour period.|

A weekend storm dropped more than an inch of rain on Santa Rosa and up to four inches on Guerneville, forecasters said Sunday.

The wet weather that began Friday on the North Coast also brought winds of more than 30 mph at Bodega Bay, said Anna Schneider of the National Weather Service.

It was enough to down trees in the Occidental and Timber Cove areas.

“It’s the first decent rain we’ve had so far,” she said.

The CHP reported numerous fender-benders and spinouts but no major accidents.

“They were all probably going a little too fast for wet roads,” said CHP Sgt. Andrew Henkens.

Commuters this morning might see light showers but conditions were expected to clear by the afternoon, Schneider said.

Dry weather is forecast for the rest of the week, with temperature reaching the low 80s by Wednesday, she said.

The storm was the product of an “atmospheric river” generated by a typhoon off the coast of Oregon. The tail of the storm dipped into Northern California, bringing significant rain to the coast and higher elevations.

It was the most rain since April and the first significant storm since the start of the official rain season on Oct. 1.

Santa Rosa received ?1.6 inches over the 72-hour period, Schneider said.

In the Bay Area, the ?Santa Cruz mountains had the most rain at nearly 10 inches over three days, she said.
