Three men died in an overnight car crash in west Marin County, the CHP said Tuesday.

A driver passing on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard east of Point Reyes Station spotted a wrecked car and stopped, finding the three dead men inside, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said. The driver called for help at 12:15 a.m.

The Marin County coroner’s office identified the men as Chance Maurer, 18, of Novato and brothers Chancellor, 20, of Woodacre and Lancelot Argall, 18, of San Anselmo.

CHP officers, Marin County sheriff’s deputies and Marin firefighters responded, closing the route until about 6 a.m. for the investigation, Barclay said.

The 2013 Toyota Corolla was westbound on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near Samuel P. Taylor State Park. East of Platform Bridge Road the driver crossed into the other lane and ran off the pavement, hitting a pole and two trees.

The speed limit there is 55 mph. How fast the Toyota was going wasn’t known but CHP officers suspect the car was moving at a “high rate of speed” as it left the roadway, due to the major damage and how far the car traveled off of the roadway, Barclay said..
