A meeting will be held Thursday for students and other community residents interested in attending a weeklong trip this spring through the South to learn more about the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

Sojourn to the Past, a Millbrae-based nonprofit group, will hold the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Luther Burbank Center.

The group is leading a trip from March 31 to April 6 through cities such as Atlanta, Memphis and Selma, Alabama. The trip is designed for high school seniors and juniors as well as college students, though spokeswoman Meg Honey said community residents are also welcome.

The trip costs about $3,000 but financial assistance is available for needy students who want to attend. The Press Democrat will pay for two area students to participate in the trip.
