Rohnert Park police are compiling a database of surveillance cameras in the city to help them quickly access footage that might help solve crimes.

In recent years doorbell cameras have captured images instrumental in solving a number of crimes, particularly thefts of packages around the holidays.

The department’s investigative bureau is asking businesses and residences with cameras that face streets and public walkways to participate in the program.

Police say having a list of such cameras around the city will allow officers to quickly contact people whose cameras might have images relevant to an investigation.

Anyone interested in participating in the program can call the Investigation Unit at 707-584-2630 to provide the location of their cameras, length of time the video is stored and contact information.
