A 69-year-old Petaluma cyclist died Tuesday morning following a crash a day earlier in west Petaluma, according to Petaluma police.

The man, whose name wasn’t released Tuesday afternoon, crashed at B Street and El Rose Drive about 1:30 p.m.

A witness told officers the man was riding down a B Street hill, going about 30-35 mph, as he approached the stop sign at El Rose Drive. Nearing the intersection he appeared to lose control, rode through the stop sign and was thrown over his handlebars.

Officers found the man on the pavement with serious head and face injuries. He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and died at 5:30 a.m.

No vehicle apparently were involved, police said. Traffic officers are investigating and police asked witnesses to contact Officer Matt Frick at 707-776-3720.
