Search continues for missing Tomales Bay boater

A search of the Tomales Bay area Sunday night failed to turn up a reported missing boater and another effort was expected to get underway Monday after the morning fog cleared.

A man reportedly fell out of a small aluminum boat into the Marin County bay Sunday afternoon.

A 3:30 p.m. call for help launched a search by Marin County authorities as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, Sonoma County Sheriff's helicopter and a coast guard helicopter from San Francisco.

A Coast Guard boat from Bodega Bay searched until about 9 p.m.

Initial reports included few details about the man, who supposedly wasn't wearing a life jacket, according to a Coast Guard official.

His name, age, or town of residence weren't being reported by Coast Guard Monday morning as authorities wanted to verify if next of kin had been notified.

Officials Monday morning were planning further search efforts but said the morning's heavy fog needed to clear before action could be taken.

The 14-foot aluminum skiff, powered by an outboard motor, was later found washed ashore near Tom's Point, south of Dillon Beach near the mouth of Tomales Bay.
