Fire destroys Forestville home
A fire that burned most of a Forestville home Tuesday afternoon apparently rekindled early Wednesday and burned the rest, according to Forestville Fire Chief Max Ming.
Forestville firefighters had finished up at the property about 5 p.m. Tuesday and returned twice that night to check for flare-ups, finding one, Ming said. But about 2:30 a.m. a resident reported seeing flames in the area, and firefighters from several west county agencies were called back to the Green Valley Road home near Highway 116.
The initial fire began near or in a granny unit and shop on the property, Ming said.
The response brought several agencies and at least three additional water trucks because there are no hydrants in the rural area.
Firefighters saved about one-quarter of the large, two-story home, Ming said. The granny unit and shop were destroyed and about a half acre of vegetation was burned.
Forestville, Graton, Russian River, Cal Fire, Occidental, Gold Ridge, Windsor and Monte Rio firefighters responded.
The fire displaced the homeowner and a renter. Fire investigators Wednesday were working on the cause and damage estimates.
