A 77-year-old Fort Bragg man was seriously injured after the logging truck he was driving overturned on northbound Highway 101 near South Leggett Tuesday afternoon, the CHP said.

Donald Lind was driving a 2012 Peterbuilt Tractor in the slow lane north of Bell Springs Road when the large truck overturned on a curve, CHP said.

The truck’s cab struck the back of 2018 Mazda 6 traveling ahead in the fast lane, CHP Special Duty Officer William Wunderlich said. A load of about 15 to 20 large redwood logs were strewn across the freeway, which was closed intermittently for about four hours as they were removed.

Lind was extricated from the cab and airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with serious injuries. Lind was in stable condition, Wunderlich said Wednesday. The Mazda’s driver, 61-year-old Victoria Justen, was not injured, he said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
