Fogbelt’s intimate, simply decorated venue offers some of the basic beer styles -- IPA, blonde, red, wheat and pale ale -- as well as new variations.

“It’s nice to have beer places popping all over,” said another Fogbelt customer, 25-year-old Santa Rosa welder Christian McDermott. “It’s more for beer connoisseurs now.”

Fogbelt brewer and co-owner Paul Hawley, 33, who started the pub with his partner, Remy Martin, echoes Wood’s philosophy at Woodfour in one respect.

“This place is about the beer,” Hawley said. “We wanted one TV for the Giants games or the World Cup, but this is not a sports bar. We want it to be more like a wine-tasting room than a pub.”

Fogbelt is growing its own hops on a quarter-acre in Healdsburg and contracts with local growers, he added.

Even the bartenders are home brewers who can discuss Fogbelt’s beers knowledgeably.

Now, rather than scold us because we left out venerable favorites like Dempsey’s in Petaluma or newer brewers like Warped Brewing Co., which also is in the Barlow center, just email the beer havens you love best to the contact information below.
