Cloverdale woman sentenced to year in jail, 5 years probation after DUI crash with her kids in the car

A Cloverdale woman who had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when she crashed last year near Windsor with her two kids in the car was sentenced Thursday to a year in county jail and five years probation.

Alexandra Hutcheson, 31, pleaded no contest in April to two felony counts of child endangerment, driving under the influence with at least one prior DUI in the last decade and resisting a law enforcement officer. Superior Court Judge Robert LaForge sentenced Hutcheson to jail and probation and ordered her to complete a residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program and a yearlong parenting class.

Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch, who had sought a prison sentence, called Hutcheson’s actions “outrageous” in a Thursday statement.

On Nov. 21, Hutcheson was driving an Acura SUV on northbound Highway 101 just south of Old Redwood Highway with her kids, 2 and 7, in the car. She lost control of the car, sending it down a dirt embankment and over a sidewalk before it crashed into two other cars stopped at a red light, prosecutors said.

Authorities found Hutcheson had a blood alcohol level of 0.271 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.
