Santa Rosa police arrest transient suspected of robbing pizza parlors, Subway sandwich shop

A 42-year-old homeless man was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of stealing cash from a Subway restaurant in south Santa Rosa, the fourth recent robbery for which police believe he is responsible.

Around 4 p.m., a suspect later identified as Jarrod Calvert walked into the sandwich shop on Santa Rosa Avenue near Yolanda Avenue and ordered everyone to leave before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, police said. An employee locked the door, hoping to prevent Calvert from leaving, but he was able to get out after trying to break the glass from the inside, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Calvert ran south on Santa Rosa Avenue, and police found him in the area based on description provided by witnesses and other callers reporting him running nearby, according to police.

Calvert was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of robbery. He had cash from the Subway shop and a fake gun in his possession, police said.

Calvert, described by police as a transient, was arrested earlier this month in connection with a San Francisco armed robbery but had been released on bail, according to Santa Rosa police.

Additionally, police believe Calvert is responsible for two other robberies in Santa Rosa last month: the first, June 17, at a Round Table Pizza restaurant on Marlow Road; the second, June 21, at a Domino's Pizza restaurant on Farmers Lane.
