Second suspect arrested in Santa Rosa coin store armed robbery

A state prison parolee wanted in connection with an armed robbery and shooting at a Santa Rosa coin store in July has been arrested, Santa Rosa police said Sunday.

Daniel Riley Quistgard, 25, who had been on the police department’s most wanted list, was arrested in Lake County and booked into Sonoma County Jail, police said in a Facebook post.

Detectives identified him as the second suspect in a July 14 holdup at the Big Oak Plaza Coins shop at 2490 West Third Street.

Another suspect, whom police said was armed with a handgun, was identified as Kevin Anthony Payne in a July 27 news release. Payne had been arrested in Los Angeles with assistance from the LAPD and was detained there on unrelated charges, police said then.

Payne is suspected of firing a single shot from a semi-automatic handgun at one of the coin store employees as he fled. However, he missed.

Payne eventually will be extradited to Sonoma County for prosecution, police said.

Quistgard was described by police as a transient who frequents the Coddingtown Mall area and Guerneville. He was said to have the tattoo “Joalice” on his chest, “Sonoma County” on his right arm and “$$” on his right forearm, as well as a piercing embedded on the right side of his face.

He was on state parole for burglary and was wanted prior to the July 14 robbery, police said.

Detectives said Quistgard stole about $17,000 worth of jewelry from a Coddingtown jewelry store kiosk on July 1 after getting onto the premises before the mall opened for business.

He’s also suspected of walking into Big Oak Plaza Coins on July 5 and grabbing a tray holding about $3,000 worth of gold nuggets, police said.

The Sonoma County Alliance’s Take Back Our Community Program had offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to Quistgard’s arrest.

Police provided no other details about his arrest in the Facebook post Sunday.
