OAKLAND - Chris Davis hit a three-run home run in the first inning for his 27th homer to back rookie Tyler Wilson’s impressive spot start, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics 9-2 on Monday night.

Caleb Joseph added a two-run homer in the fourth off Jesse Chavez (5-11) as Baltimore won for the eighth time in 10 games.

The power display by Baltimore was a stark contrast to the A’s weekend when they allowed a total of seven runs in splitting a four-game series with the Cleveland Indians.

The A’s came into Monday’s game with a 3.40 staff earned run average, the best in the American League and fifth-best in the majors.

Baltimore’s win helped their skipper, Buck Showalter, earn his 1,313th career managerial victory. That tied Showalter with Hall of Famer Ned Hanlon for 31st all-time.

Adam Jones had an RBI double in the third inning on one of his three hits, while Jimmy Paredes and Joseph hit run-scoring doubles in the fifth.

A’s left fielder Coco Crisp returned from the 60-day disabled list from a neck injury that kept him out of action him since May 20, one of six roster moves by Oakland before the game. He batted second and went 2 for 4.

NOTES

A’s second baseman Eric Sogard extended his streak of errorless games to 51 games. He has not made an error since May 8 and his .994 fielding percentage leads American League second baseman and ranks him fourth for all positions in the majors.

The A’s are 14-1-1 in season series against Baltimore dating back to 1999 and are 88-46 (.657) over that span, which is the fourth best record by any team against another team (min. 40 games).
