Fort Bragg wallops Willits, 81-0, in NCL III game
WILLITS — Fort Bragg scored four touchdowns within three minutes in the second quarter in an 81-0 shellacking of host Willits Friday night in a North Central League I football game.
After a slow start — the undefeated Timberwolves led 7-0 after the first quarter — they poured it on in the second quarter, scoring eight more touchdowns to take a 60-0 lead into halftime.
Fort Bragg quarterback Kaylor Sullivan threw for six touchdowns and ran for another in the first half half.
In three quarters, he threw for a Redwood Empire record 536 passing yards, accomplished on 35 completions in 45 attempts.
Running back Brett Jacomella opened the Timberwolves' scoring with a 5-yard run with 4:22 left in the first quarter.
Defensive lineman Zach Silva later recovered a Willits fumbled snap and returned it 37 yards for another score.
In between, Sullivan connected with Austin Trujillo (3-yard TD), Shane Giaccani (22-yard and 21-yard TDs), Brad Jacomella (10-yard TD), Lucas Triplett (14-yard TD) and Daniel Cook (18-yard TD) for scores.
Fort Bragg scored three more times in the second half before the fourth quarter was played quickly with a running clock and no additional scoring.
Sullivan ended up throwing eight touchdown passes.
According to Cal Hi Sports, the 53-point quarter was the third-highest by a high school football team in state history. Vasquez of Acton holds the record with 58 in a 1999 game.
