Submissions sought for Chronicle wine competition

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is calling for submissions for its 2012 competition. The judging will take place over a four-day period in January, and winners will have the opportunity to be showcased at a public tasting in San Francisco on Feb. 18.

The competition has been the largest wine contest in the world since 2007 when 2,700 American wines were entered, according to the competition's website. In 2011, entries escalated to 5,050 wines.

"We are amazed at the response we continue to receive each year," said Robert Fraser, executive director of the competition. "We invite all wineries to join us on the cutting edge of the wine industry throughout the United States."
