Festival del Sole announces 2015 plans

The Napa Valley Festival del Sole will open its 10th season July 17 with a recital at the Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and pianist-composer Jake Heggie.

The summer festival continues through July 26 with concerts that range from opera, classical and jazz to dance and theater performances at various venues throughout the Napa Valley. There will also be wine, food and fitness events throughout the festival.

For the third year, the festival will present a concert at 6:30 p.m. July 21 at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. The program will be announced in April.

Healdsburg chef Charlie Palmer will serve a patron dinner on July 23 at Harvest Table, his new restaurant at the Harvest Inn at the south end of St. Helena.

Festival del Sole offers a range of passes, including a free pass to any of the four admission-free concerts. Concert passes start at $39. For more information, go to or call 1-888-337-6272.

I’m interested in the home kitchen, from sheet-pan suppers to the latest food trends. Food encompasses the world, its many cultures, languages and history. It is both essential and sensual. I also have my fingers on the pulse of classical music in Sonoma County, from student mariachi bands to jazz crossover and symphonic sounds. It’s all a rich gumbo, redolent of the many cultures that make up our country and the world.
