A la carte: Upcoming food and educational events

Pliny is coming on Friday

Fans of the hoppy, malty Triple IPA known as Pliny the Younger will be lining outside the Russian River Brewing Co. starting this Friday through Feb. 15.

The high-alcohol, seasonal brew was made for the first time in 2005 and is brewed only once a year. It is always released the first Friday in February, rain or shine. Since the Beer Advocate rated it the No. 1 beer in American in 2010, the line to get into the pub has grown to epic proportions.

Expect to wait up to eight hours on a weekend. The beer is served in a 10-ounce glass with a maximum of three per person. You cannot stay in the pub for more than three hours.

Russian River Brewing Co. is at 725 4th St.

Living waste-free

It’s a good time to learn how to simplify, organize and manage your kitchen and pantry, not to mention your compost pile and recycle bin.

Molly de Vries will give a “Workshop for a Waste-Free Life” at 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Healdsburg Shed. She will talk about how to buy and store food in minimal packaging.

Cost is $20. 25 North St.
