Five white wines to sip in between storms
T he only way to outsmart Mother Nature is to sidestep her whimsy with a line-up of whites to drink when we get a peek of the sun. These wines are light and breezy and the range includes prosecco, arneis and sauvignon blanc. They are - in a word - refreshing; they embrace the sun, which is fleeting. But if you’re well prepared with your lineup, you can sit out the storms. You can wait for that rare luxurious, sun-drenched day to uncork one of these tasty whites.
LaMarca, NV Prosecco, 11%, $17. This is a light and delicate prosecco with notes of citrus, honey and mineral. Crisp acid. Light on its feet.
Jeio, NV Prosecco Brut, $15. This a creamy prosecco with a lush texture. Aromas and flavors of Granny Smith Apple, honey and lemon zest. Citrusy finish. Top rate.
Enotria, 2014 Mendocino County Arneis, 13.5%, $15. A refreshing quaffer with notes of pear, apple, anise and almond. Nice undercurrent of mineral. Well-crafted with layered flavors. Nice length. Lovely.
St. Supery, 2015 Dollar Hide Estate Vineyards, Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 13.5, $35. A striking sauvignon blanc with crisp citrus notes, mineral and a touch of toast. Notes of grapefruit, melon and lime on the palate. Pitch perfect balance. Impressive.
Foursight, 2015 Charles Vineyard, Anderson Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 12.9%, $25. A tasty sauvignon blanc with notes of lime, mineral and grapefruit. Creamy texture. Bright acidity. Knockout.
