It all started with red flannel pajamas and a pair of Uggs.

Years later, Oprah Winfrey is still sharing her roundup of great gifts with the world - and goodies from two Bay Area bakeries have scored spots on the coveted list for 2018.

“These days, choosing my Favorite Things makes me a little cuckoo,” she writes. “What started as an organic extension of wanting to treat people to some things I truly loved has turned into an annual list that takes a team to curate.

“I then go through every item, picking my favorites and narrowing the selection to my own. It’s a process. Because it’s important for me to remain as true to my original inspiration as possible.

“My guideline: Do I really like it enough to want to receive it myself?”

Two that Oprah would love to get hail from the Bay Area.

One comes from a Belgian native who now bakes in Benicia. Nostalgic for the speculoos cookies from back home, Evy Ballegeer started making cookies for family and friends and then opened her Little Belgians bakery in 2014. The sugary-spicy treats are a must with coffee in Belgium.

Winfrey likes the “Little Saint Nick Cookie Gift Set,” two 10-inch cookies in a cloth bag, which sells for $19 on the Little Belgians website (or if you use the Oprah promo code, you get 20 percent off).

You can also buy Little Belgians goodies at retail shops throughout the Bay Area.

The other Oprah fave comes from San Francisco, where chef Roy Shvartzapel has set up his business called From Roy after years of globe-trotting and running Houston’s Common Bond bakery. His first product is Italian sweet bread, and Oprah recommends his non-traditional Banana-Caramel Panettone.

The 2.2-pound domed loaf sells for $49.99, as do his other flavors: Candied Orange Raisin,

Chocolate, Pecan Chocolate Caramel. Order online at www.thisisfromroy.com.
