The CHP is asking for the public’s help in determining how a bicyclist became severely injured in a Nov. 5 crash just west of Kelseyville in Lake County.

Daniel Dever, 54, of Kelseyville was riding north on East Highland Springs Road, south of Highland Springs Road, when he left the roadway around noon and collided with a barbed-wire fence, the CHP said.

Dever sustained major injuries and was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Investigators are trying to determine whether there was a vehicle involved in the crash or whether Dever lost control as he went downhill on his 15-speed bicycle, CHP Sgt. Nenad Gorenec said.

“We just don’t know,” Gorenec said. “The family is really distraught.”

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to call the Kelseyville CHP office at 707-279-0103.
