Burris fire prompts evacuations in Mendocino County

The fire is burning northwest of Ukiah, according to Cal Fire.|

A fire broke out Sunday afternoon in Mendocino County in the hills east of Lake Mendocino, burning 350 acres and triggering evacuations, Cal Fire said.

By nightfall Sunday, the Burris fire was 20% contained.

Mandatory evacuation orders were downgraded Sunday evening to advisories for Vista del Lago, Elledge Ranch Road, King Ranch Road and Horseshoe Circle, all northeast of Lake Mendocino in the Cold Creek Ranch area, a 6 p.m. Nixle alert by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said.

The blaze also spurred an evacuation warning for areas between Highway 20 and Highway 175 and between the east side of the Russian River to the Lake County line, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Twitter post.

Residents leaving the area were instructed to use Potter Valley Road to Highway 20 toward Ukiah.
