Two people were injured and a dog was killed in a weekend fire that destroyed a Calistoga home, authorities said Sunday.

The Calistoga Fire Department responded just before 5:50 a.m. Saturday to a reported fire in a single-family home on Urbani Place in the northern portion of the city, Fire Chief Jed Matcham said.

The man, who lived in the home, a woman and one of two dogs had evacuated before fire officials arrived and found the single-story house engulfed in flames. The second dog did not get out of the home.

Both the man and the woman were taken to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa to be treated for smoke inhalation. The man, who also had burn injuries, was later moved to a burn center, Matcham said.

The woman was later released from the hospital.

Fire investigators are still determining the cause and origin of the fire.

Before crews contained the blaze, flames spread to the attic of a house next door, Matcham said.

Firefighters, though, were able to bring the flames under control in about 40 minutes. They remained on scene extinguishing hot spots and cleaning up the site until about noon Saturday.

The Napa County Fire Department, Cal Fire and St. Helena Fire Department assisted at the scene.
