CHP: Impaired drivers, caught speeding, weaving

A speeding Lakeville Highway driver with an opened bottle of whiskey in the back seat, a driver stopped for weaving who was high on marijuana and a reckless driver whose blood-alcohol percentage was three times the legal limit were three of 21 people arrested this weekend in Sonoma County by CHP officers.

The Lakeville Highway driver was stopped at 8 p.m. Saturday, going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone. Driver Derek Krutsinger, 28, of Stockton was wanted on an arrest warrant involving a drunken driving case and driving with a suspended license and his license had been suspended since 2010, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said in a news release.

CHP officers who stopped Krutsinger said the man appeared to be intoxicated and had an open bottle of booze in the back seat. They took Krutsinger into custody for the warrant, suspected DUI and driving without a valid license.

Santa Rosa resident Reynaldo Robles-Baez, 29, was stopped at about 1 a.m. Sunday while driving on Stony Point Road near Todd Road after officers saw him braking frequently and weaving, Sloat said.

As they spoke to the driver they smelled marijuana and appeared to be impaired. A check of his license record showed the man had two prior DUI convictions and a suspended license. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

A Kelseyville woman was stopped after an officer clocked her car at 86 mph on southbound Highway 101 south of Geyserville at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. She was pulled over south of Healdsburg and a check of her license showed Karen Marquez, 27, had eight license suspensions and two DUI convictions, Sloat said.

She appeared to be drunk and a preliminary test showed she was more than three times the legal limit. Marquez was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and violating her probation.

Thirty minutes after she was stopped, a CHP officer on patrol in Rohnert Park was flagged down by an off-duty San Francisco police officer. That man reported he’d been following a driver who’d been speeding, weaving and nearly colliding with several vehicles, Sloat said.

The car was stopped in Rohnert Park on Commerce Boulevard.

Driver Antonio Nunez, 41, of Cotati had two prior drunken driving convictions and a suspended license as of 2006, Sloat said.

The man failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and driving with a suspended license.
