Driver suspected of DUI in Cotati head-on crash

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after a head-on crash just west of Cotati.|

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Sunday morning after a head-on crash just west of Cotati.

Antonio Salcido was eastbound in a Lincoln Navigator, on Highway 116, west of Stony Point Road, around 12:30 a.m., when he crossed into the oncoming path of Toyota Prius, according to the Highway Patrol.

The 52-year-old driver of Prius swerved to the right, but was unable to avoid the collision, sending her car spinning off the road after the impact to her vehicle’s left front and side. Neither she nor her passenger were injured, according to CHP Officer Dave Thomas.

After hitting the oncoming car, Salcido’s SUV hit a tree. He sustained what were described as moderate injuries. He was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment and arrested after it was it determined he was under the influence, Thomas said.

The place of residence of both drivers was not immediately available Sunday.
