A fire of unknown origin damaged a house Tuesday on the 700 block of Carr Avenue in Santa Rosa’s Junior College neighborhood.

Five fire engines and a ladder truck responded to the blaze, which was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Twenty-five firefighters attacked the fire. Some entered the home by the front door while others cut holes in the roof to release heat and smoke.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

The home’s occupants, a man and woman, weren’t home when firefighters arrived but returned shortly after the blaze was extinguished. Firefighters found the residents’ dog unharmed in the backyard.

The cause is undetermined. Damage was estimated at $250,000.
