Ice hockey players ages 40 to 90 are squaring off on Snoopy's Home Ice this week for the 37th annual Senior World Hockey Tournament.

This year's tourney features 852 American and Canadian hockey players on 54 teams playing in age divisions from 40 to 70 years.

On Wednesday, the Santa Rosa Great Pumpkins defeated the New York Commuters for the Gold Cup in the 50 year-old division. This is the first gold in the 16-year history of the club.

This year, more than 100 players are 70 years old and one will turn 91 this week, said rink General Manager Justin Higgs.

The skill levels range from amateur skaters to former collegiate players and some former NHL professionals, Higgs said.

The games are being played from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at the Santa Rosa rink. Admission is free. The tournament ends Sunday.
