The Luther Burbank Rose Parade and Festival is returning to Santa Rosa in May following a five-year hiatus, organizers announced Monday.

About 100 groups and organizations are expected to participate in the parade on May 18, officials said, in a news release.

In a statement, event Chair Terry Sanders said, “The goal of our group is not just to bring this beloved community event back and make it sustainable for generations to come. The purpose is to celebrate our shared history, showcase the people who make Santa Rosa special, unite our community and make meaningful, lasting memories.”

Next year’s parade will have an historical theme with participants basing floats and costumes on different time periods.

“The theme allows for a wide range of inspiration all tied to different eras in the city’s past, present and future,” organizers wrote in Monday’s announcement.

Following the parade, the festival will will be held at Old Courthouse Square in downtown Santa Rosa.
