Lynda Hopkins on Thursday night became the first Sonoma County supervisor to give birth while serving in office, welcoming her first son into the world.

Linden was born in Hopkins’ Forestville home shortly before 6 p.m., the supervisor said. Hopkins and her husband, Emmett, have two daughters, 6 and 3. Both were “thrilled” by their little brother’s arrival, Hopkins said.

“I’m feeling really great - babies are always worth the wait,” Hopkins, 35, said of the 8-pound, 11-ounce boy who along with his mom is doing well. “He was one day past his due date, and we were eager to meet him.”

Hopkins is one of only seven women who have served on the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, starting with the late Helen Rudee, who was elected in 1976.
