A 65-year-old Guerneville man who smashed into a large dump truck Wednesday afternoon on Fulton Road in Santa Rosa was cut out of his dark blue 1999 Volvo and taken to a local hospital with major injuries, said Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Summer Black.

It appeared that the driver, Michael Mintzer, was attempting to pass the dump truck driver when he rear-ended the large black and white truck, Black said. The 3:30 p.m. crash Wednesday was in a left-hand turn lane on Fulton Road, at the intersection of West College Avenue.

Mintzer was under the influence of narcotics and arrested at the hospital, according to police.

Witnesses told Santa Rosa police that Mintzer was driving “aggressively” and “erratically” before the crash.
