Paul Lozada wins seat on Sonoma County bench in unopposed race

Paul Lozada ran unopposed for a seat held by a judge who’s retiring this year.|

With no opponent in his way, Paul Lozada, a Sonoma County Superior Court commissioner secured Tuesday one of three open positions on the Sonoma County bench.

Lozada ran for a seat filled by Judge Peter Ottenweller, whose last day in court is March 27 ahead of his retirement in May.

Just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, early results showed 45,503 Sonoma County residents had voted for Lozada.

Tuesday’s election included three judicial posts filled by judges who have announced their retirements.

Defense attorney Omar Figueroa and Court Commissioner Ken English were vying for the seat held by Sonoma County Judge Brad DeMeo, who’s retiring Jan. 5, 2025,

Defense attorney Kristine Burk and family law attorney Beki Berrey were in the race for the seat held by outgoing Judge Jim Bertoli, who’s retiring after 24 years on the bench.
