Prescribed burn planned Thursday at Jack London State Historic Park

Smoke may be visible Thursday from a prescribed burn planned at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, fire officials said.

The 15-acre burn is set for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A few trails near the burn area, including Old Fallen Bridge Trail, Upper Fallen Bridge Trail and Mountain Fire Road, may be temporarily closed due to the fire event, according to a news release from California State Parks and Cal Fire.

The burn is aimed at controlling brush and enhancing biodiversity as part of the park’s grassland and hardwood forest management program, the release said.

It is being carried out in cooperation with Sonoma Valley, Schell-Vista and Kenwood Fire, the Sonoma Valley Wildlands Collaborative and Jack London Park Partners.

Prescribed burns are planned and coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District in order to minimize the smoke impacts on surrounding communities.

All burning depends on favorable weather and air quality conditions. If the conditions are not conducive for burning, the burns will be rescheduled, according to the release.
