Some Tahoe-area ski resorts extend season as snow keeps falling
As powder continues to blanket the Sierra following February’s blizzard and snowfall in March, some Tahoe-area ski resorts are extending their winter season.
Kirkwood Ski Resort announced Monday that it was keeping the slopes open for two extra weeks. The resort said it plans to stay open daily through April 28, “so long as Mother Nature allows.”
Kirkwood’s announcement comes two weeks after Sugar Bowl in Norden announced it would extend its season until April 28 after the resort received more than 10 feet on snow at the beginning of March. Sugar Bowl’s March 8 announcement included an offer for a Spring Pass with lift ticket deals starting at $89.
Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is also operating through April 28.
Other Tahoe-area ski resorts are wrapping their seasons next month. Diamond Peak, Heavenly Lake Tahoe and Sierra at Tahoe will close April 21; Northstar, Homewood Mountain Resort and Boreal Mountain & Woodward Tahoe are set to close April 14.
Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Olympic Valley is projecting to have the longest winter season of the region’s resorts, and plans on operating through Memorial Day, May 27, according to its website.
Snow is still in the forecast for the Tahoe region, according to the National Weather Service, who said Monday on X that a quick-moving system is expected Wednesday with a stronger storm coming this weekend.
