STATE CHAMPS:SRJC'S CINDERELLA TEAM FINISHES A SEASON THAT WON'T BE FORGOTTEN
In baseball, a Major League team that wins 60 percent of its games usually
qualifies for post-season play. If the team wins four of seven games, it will
win the World Series.
These baseball probabilities deserve attention as local fans reflect on the
Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs' amazing path to a state championship this
past weekend.
To bring home the state trophy, the Bear Cubs won nine of their last 10
regular season games, six out of eight games in two playoff series, and four
out of five games in the State Final Four, including four in a row. If you're
counting, that's 19 wins and 4 losses.
Throughtout the playoffs, Coach Damon Neidling-er kept insisting this
wasn't a team of destiny, but with the trophy safely in hand, he did admit to
Staff Writer Bruce Meadows that ''something special happened.''
Players and fans alike go home with memories that will last a lifetime,
memories of a team of underdogs that will forever be known by two words: State
champs.
