The Sonoma County Museum will be allowed to close one lane of Third Street up to 10 times per year to handle deliveries of works of art to its future downtown site under a deal struck with the city Tuesday.
The agreement allows the museum to plan logistics at its proposed home on the first floor of the Museum on the Square project planned for the former AT&T building, said city redevelopment specialist Frank Kasimov.
The $23 million mixed-use tower is the most high-profile -- and likely last -- project of the city's redevelopment agency, which owns the long-vacant downtown eyesore. The agency is due to be dissolved Feb. 1.
The road closures will be limited to four hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the museum must submit traffic control plans 30 days in advance.
The city reserves the right bar deliveries during heavy traffic hours, construction activity, holiday shopping seasons and community events like the downtown market.
The museum will pay $250 per year for the privilege, Kasimov said.
