A plumber’s truck that flipped on its side in the middle of Highway 101 north of Petaluma snarled traffic for miles Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the truck swerved to avoid another motorist making an unsafe lane change and crashed into the center divider, causing the truck to land on its side in the middle northbound lane, CHP Sgt. Erik Egide said.

The accident, in which two other vehicles were involved, occurred shortly before 2 p.m. between Petaluma and Cotati.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, Egide said.

The roadway was reopened about 45 minutes later. An officer was able to use his SUV patrol vehicle to push the truck off the roadway to help clear traffic lanes, Egide said.

The crash was still under investigation, and more detailed information was not yet available.
