Kyle Shanahan determined the best course of action for the 49ers Monday was for players to stay home and tend to their considerable wounds.

The 49ers coach was hopeful of getting some key players back for their Week 7 game at Levi’s Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs.

After being on the road since departing for their Week 5 game in Carolina and practicing last week at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, Shanahan told players to stay home, rest up and be with their families rather than come to the facility to review a 28-14 road loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Among those who could be on the field to face Kansas City included left tackle Trent Williams (high ankle sprain), who has missed the last three games, and edge rusher Nick Bosa (groin).

“A lot better than last week,” Shanahan said regarding the chance two of the best players at their positions in the NFL could play this week. “I’m really hoping for it. I think there’s a decent chance.”

Charvarius Ward, the 49ers cornerback who left after 22 snaps with a groin injury, is listed as day-to-day and the hope is he could play too. Same goes for right tackle Mike McGlinchey (calf contusion).

Shanahan wasn’t as optimistic regarding defensive tackle Arik Armstead (ankle, feet) and safety Jimmie Ward (broken hand). He believes both players to be a week away and possibly more.

One situation bears watching — safety Talanoa Hufanga, who passed both an in-game and post-game concussion test, had concussion symptoms Monday morning and is now in the league protocol.

“There’s always a third one the day after the game and he came in with some symptoms today,” Shanahan said.

Aside from Charvarius Ward and McGlinchey, other 49ers listed as “day to day” by Shanahan included tight end Charlie Woerner (AC joint sprain) and defensive ends Drake Jackson (knee sprain) and Samson Ebukam (Achilles’ tendonitis).
