Wilmer Flores guaranteed $16.5 million from Giants though 2025

Wilmer Flores, one of the Giants’ most valuable and versatile position players, will reportedly be back next season.

Flores, whose original three-year free-agent contract was set to expire after this season, agreed to another two-year deal with a mutual option for 2025, according to a report by the New York Post. The terms of the agreement were not reported, and the Giants have yet to make the deal official.

Flores, 31, hit his 18th home run of the season Sunday night against the Cubs, matching a previous career-high. He had already surpassed his career high in RBIs and leads the team in that category.

Flores also leads the Giants in games played, with 132, coming almost equally split between second base (52), first base (37) and third base (32), while serving as the designated hitter for another 23 games.

He has a chance to become the fourth Giants player since 1920 to lead the team in RBIs while appearing in at least 25 games at three different positions (last done by Aubrey Huff in 2010).

The deal should come as no surprise, as Flores has previously expressed his desire to remain in San Francisco, and manager Gabe Kapler frequently raves about the player and teammate that Flores is.

Flores was set to become a free agent for the third time in his career.

After six seasons with the New York Mets, Flores signed a one-year contract with Arizona in 2019, then signed with the Giants before the 2020 season. If both sides exercise their option for 2025, Flores will have served as many years in San Francisco as he did with his original organization.
