Lightning forecast for Northern California has firefighters on edge

A fire-weather watch was issued for parts of Northern California including northern Lake County and the Mendocino National Forest.|

Seen from Fountaingrove looking east, a thunderstorm high in the clouds that featured a few cloud-to-cloud lightning flashes drops rain Wednesday over Knights Valley. The prospect of dry lightning raised the level of fire danger Wednesday and prompted Cal Fire to add firefighters and equipment while keeping a watchful eye on the sky. Lightning strikes were reported Wednesday in the Mayacamas Mountains on the county’s eastern edge, but there were no reports of related fires.
