Santa Rosa teen arrested after fight at Analy High School

A Santa Rosa teen was arrested in the wake of an altercation Tuesday at Sebastopol's Analy High School in which he got into a car and drove directly at an Analy student who had tried to break up the fight, police said.

Nicholas Kingsley Avilla, 18, who is not a student at the school, had gone to Analy in search of a boy he believed had been overly familiar with a friend's girlfriend, police said.

Avilla had five other people with him - all believed to be El Molino students - when he entered the Analy parking lot at lunch break and approached the youth, brandishing a knife, police Sgt. Greg Devore said.

As the altercation got underway, a 17-year-old bystander tried to calm the situation. The assailant then climbed into a car as if to flee and steered the vehicle toward the bystander, clipping him in the knees, Devore said.

No one was injured beyond some bruises, Devore said.

Analy Principal Chris Heller said administrators spent the afternoon investigating what happened with officials from El Molino and Laguna high schools, both previously attended by Avilla, according to police.

Police began looking for Avilla at several Santa Rosa addresses. But Avilla, hearing he was being sought, called police and arranged to surrender, authorities said.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for suspected assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a knife on school grounds, both felonies. He subsequently bailed out.
