Three people were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle collision on Bennett Valley Road near the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

The 10:04 a.m. crash happened as an SUV traveled off eastbound Highway 12 onto Bennett Valley Road and a sedan driver crashed through a barricade separating Bennett Valley Road from Hendley Street, near E Street, according to authorities.

The impact threw the SUV onto its roof. A man and woman in that vehicle were able to get out on their own and appeared to have minor injuries, Santa Rosa fire Capt. Keith Jeffus said. A woman in a sedan had to be cut free by firefighters and she appeared to have serious injuries, Jeffus said. All three were transported by ambulances to a hospital. Santa Rosa police are investigating.
